30 Minutes from Angers, in a Village by the Loire, a Renaissance Residence with Guest..., Angers
30 Minutes from Angers, in a village by the Loire, a Renaissance residence with guest houses, outbuildings, and a formal garden. A village lane provides access to the various entrances of the property, which was once a priory dependent on the Fontevraud Abbey, as evidenced by a cartouche still visible on one of the walls. The main porch, made of tuff stone, arched and molded, opens to a gravel courtyard that is extended by a formal garden. Rising three levels, including an attic, the residence is constructed of stone rubble and tuff stone. The main wing is flanked by a square corner tower and a square façade tower that houses the staircase. The front façade is extended by a loggia, which is accessed from the courtyard by a slate stone staircase with a solid tuff stone railing. A bread oven is set against the west gable. The arrangement of the roofs, all made of slate, is remarkable: one pitch supported by a detached tuff column for the loggia, two pitches pierced with dormers for the main body of the residence, three pitches for the bread oven, and four pitches for the two towers. Impressive tuff gargoyles, depicting a griffon at the rear and a reclining dog at the front, extend from the ornate bedding of the west gable. The courtyard also provides access to a outbuilding serving as a garage, one of the two guest houses, and an entrance pavilion near the pedestrian door. At the end of the formal garden stands the second guest house with a washhouse on one side and a hall with a workshop on the other. Beyond, the park borders the surrounding countryside. At the back of the outbuilding, two terraced platforms separated by a wall run alongside the courtyard and the formal garden. They are complemented by an exit onto the lane. Stables and a greenhouse are located on the upper terrace. The property is enclosed by walls, except for the part facing the countryside. All buildings have undergone significant restoration work, with some certified by the Heritage Foundation.
